I made this assignment for my class, ART 346, Basic Graphic Design. The first part of the project involved translating individual elements from photographs into graphic forms, which helped me develop a distinct visual language inspired by the original imagery. The process encouraged experimentation without strict rules, employing techniques such as sketching, building structures, manipulating shadows, and digital editing. The goal was to move beyond the photographs, creating forms through iterative processes that reveal my unique artistic voice. I used Procreate and Adobe Photoshop to create 25 visual studies.

Ideation & Iteration

Ideation & Iteration

For the second part of the project, I revisited the 25 visual studies I created and used them to develop five new compositions, each measuring 10" × 10". These compositions focused on one of the five Gestalt principles: Similarity, Continuity, Closure, Proximity, and Figure/Ground. I combined and modified the studies using black and white and one or two additional colors. I used Procreate to create the five new compositions.
